Chinese team visits PSO, shows interest in refinery
 

KARACHI: A Chinese delegation on October 17, 2006 visited PSO House and held discussions with the top management of the company. The team was accompanied by Director Refining, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mr Muhammad Azam, and officials of the Chinese Consulate.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jalees Ahmed Siddiqi, welcomed the foreign delegation and briefed them on the working of PSO and its future plans. He said the company is using technology to its advantage by seeking to reinforce technology-driven initiatives and also working for diversification in fuel and non-fuel business.

The Managing Director highlighted the performance of the company in recent years and said, in the first quarter of this financial year, PSO has further improved its market share in key products.

The Chinese team leader, Mr Yang Hansheng, Standing Director & Chief of Technology, Ningxia Baota Petrochemical Group, said that China would like to set up a refinery in Pakistan. He showed keen interest in PSO, in particular, the working of Supply and Operations.

Later, the team visited various PSO departments, including the Control Room of the state-of-the art Monitoring and Tracking System. The team members highly appreciated the transformation of PSO into a modern, customer-focused oil marketing company, which is now geared up to face the challenges of ever-changing, volatile POL environment.
