10th Cartege Constractors Workshop Enhanced Professionalism Stressed

Logistics Department arranged the 10th Cartage Contractors Workshop on September 19, 2005 at Islamabad. The Managing Director & CEO, Jalees Ahmed Siddiqi, was the chief guest.

     The first session started with the address of welcome by Shahid Khan, General Manager, Logistics, who dwelt upon the need for such gatherings for enhancing professionalism in the cartage business. The workshops, he said, are structured so as the first session covers speeches, the second session comprises group discussions while in the third session, the proceedings of the day are summed up by the top management.

     Inaugurating the workshop, the Managing Director & CEO appreciated the efforts of the organizers for arranging such a well-structured and disciplined gathering.

     He told the participants about the record financial achievements of the organization during FY05 and expressed confidence that, despite severe competition and depressed international scenario, the company will do well in the current year as well.

     Kalim A. Siddiqui, Executive Director, Customer Services, also gave an extensive overview of the overall performance of the company.

     After the address of the ED (CS), Certificates of Appreciation were distributed so as to acknowledge those cartage contractors whose participation in upgrading of tank lorries was the highest at the location.

     Later, Shahzad Manzoor, General Manager HSE, SS & QA, Col (Retd) Syed Anwar Saeed, General Manager Operations, and Manager-Freight Pool spoke on the activities and performance of their respective departments and ensured their full support in resolving issues confronted by cartage contractors.

     GM Logistics gave a presentation on "Enhancing the Professionalism in Cartage Business" and described various elements needed to run the cartage operations smoothly.

     The first session ended with a Lucky Draw of Umrah Ticket for those who had participated in purchasing fuel through PSO Pre-paid Cards. Three winners were chosen through the draws performed by MD&CEO, ED (CS) and a cartage contractor.

     In the second session, three working groups were formed for discussion on various topics. Representatives of cartage contractors were given a full opportunity to present their suggestions and raise issues, which needed immediate attention and resolution. The management took great  interest in the resolution of issues and issued on-the-spot directives for immediate redressal of some problems.

     In his closing remarks, the MD&CEO appreciated the structure of the conference as well as the enthusiasm, discipline and attendance of cartage contractors and urged the stakeholders to become more professional in their carriage business.

     This was the first workshop attended by Jalees Ahmed Siddiqi as MD&CEO and Muhammad Shahid Khan as GM Logistics.
